Unlocking the Secret to Meaningful Prayer: Beyond Repetition

The Causes of Humility in Prayer

Meaningful prayer begins with understanding what causes humility. If you want to truly feel humble (خُشُوع) in prayer and enjoy praying, you need to understand what causes humility in prayer. Humility is a feeling that doesn’t come suddenly. It’s like happiness, sadness, joy, or fear—you can’t force these feelings directly.

For example, you can’t just decide to be happy suddenly. Happiness comes from reasons that make you happy. The same is true for sadness. If you’re sad, you can’t just decide to be happy without a reason to be happy.

Humility in prayer is the same. You can’t just decide to be humble. But there are things that can help you feel humble. The Quran talks about two main ways:

  1. Know your LORD (رَبُّك) well. This means understanding ALLAH’s greatness, beauty, power, and how HE controls everything in your life.
  2. Remember that you will return to ALLAH. This means believing in the Day of Judgment and everything that comes with it.

When you focus on knowing your LORD (رَبُّك) and remembering the Day of Judgment, it helps you feel humble in prayer, leading to meaningful prayer.

Discovering New Depths in the Quran

The Quran is amazing. Even one verse can help you improve yourself for years if you think about it deeply. You can keep finding new meanings in the same verse for a long time.

It’s good to choose a verse and think about it all day – when you wake up, when you’re traveling, or whenever you remember ALLAH. The more you think about it, the more you’ll understand.

Some people think reading the same parts of the Quran in prayer is repetitive. But it’s not. Each time you read, you can find new meanings. It’s like swimming in a river—each time you swim, the water is new, even though it looks the same. So, when you read the Quran, if you read it the right way, you’re never really repeating. You can always find something new, even in the same verse or chapter. Try it and see for yourself!
